A Look at the Most Heavily Trafficked Roads in Southern Arizona

Those who drive for a living log a great deal of hours on the road, and they’ll spend a lot of their time on roads that already have countless miles on them. In terms of southern Arizona’s roads, there are a few that stand out from the pack. Read on and take a look at the most heavily trafficked roads in southern Arizona.

Interstate 8
Running from the southern coast of California almost all the way to Casa Grande, Arizona is Interstate 8. It crosses through Yuma in Arizona, and it links up with Interstate 10, which can take you north to Phoenix or south to Tucson. The highway takes the Colorado River Bridge to come into Arizona through Yuma and initially heads southeast, but it then it curves back up to land between Phoenix and Tucson.

Baseline Road
The Public Land Survey System uses the term “baseline” to describe a parallel line that’s used for surveying. This is where Baseline Road gets its name. This is an arterial road in southern Arizona that runs from the Apache Junction in Pinal County in the east to 547th Avenue in Maricopa County in the west. Although it spans this entire stretch, the highway is not fully continuous and is instead broken down into several segments that are interrupted by other roads.

Camelback Road
Unlike Baseline Road, Camelback Road runs uninterrupted for about 33 miles. It connects Scottsdale and Litchfield Park, running through Phoenix in between. The road will take you near Camelback Mountain, the Phoenician Resort, and the Arizona Biltmore Hotel as well as the Wigwam Resort that dates back to 1918.
