Arizona features some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the U.S. When you visit Phoenix for the Customized Logistics and Delivery Association (CLDA) conference, I hope you’ll take the time to explore the natural wonders of the region. I recommend starting with the Phoenix Sonoran Preserve or the Lost Dutchman State Park. If you’d like to venture a bit farther out, the Grand Canyon National Park is a must-see attraction.
Phoenix Sonoran Preserve
You’ll find this natural gem in North Phoenix. It’s over 18,000 acres of pristine desert plains and mountains. This park is perfect for conference attendees who are looking for a great workout in a beautiful setting. There are more than 30 miles of trails, so bring your hiking boots or mountain bike. You can start at any of the three trailheads around the valley: The Apache Wash Trailhead, Desert Hills Trailhead, and the Desert Vista Trailhead. There is no charge to enter the park. Dogs are welcome, but must remain leashed.
Lost Dutchman State Park
The Lost Dutchman State Park is just 40 miles outside of Phoenix. It’s located in the Sonoran Desert and it’s open year-round. There are multiple trails in this beautiful park, including trails for those who are interested in an easy stroll (try the Native Plant Trail) and for those who want a challenge (try the Siphon Draw Trail). Some of the trails head into the Superstition Wilderness, and you’ll get great views of the Superstition Mountains. Bring your camera, but know that there is a photo permit fee required. Inquire for details at the visitor’s center.
Grand Canyon National Park
Visiting Grand Canyon National Park is a must for folks from out of state. Get up early for this day trip, as it’s a three-and-a-half-hour drive, or plan to stay there overnight. Once you get there, it’ll be hard to tear yourself away from the awe-inspiring views. The South Rim is open year-round. Take advantage of the ranger-led walks to benefit from their knowledge about the park.
