Spotlight on Taco Bell Delivery

For years, pizzerias and Chinese restaurants dominated the food delivery sector. But America is a country built on the craving for convenience, and so it seems natural that food delivery services would eventually expand to other markets. Taco Bell is one of the latest fast food restaurant chains to experiment with delivering takeout directly to the customer’s door.

Early Delivery Experimentation with DoorDash

Fast food enthusiasts have long been accustomed to enjoying the convenience of picking up a meal without ever leaving their car. But as early as 2015, customers of Taco Bell were also able to order tacos and chalupas without leaving their homes. In July 2015, Taco Bell announced a partnership with DoorDash, a delivery service app. Customers in select locations became able to enter their order on the DoorDash app or website and receive the delivery at their home or office. This early experimentation with fast food delivery was only available in the vicinities of 200 Taco Bell restaurants in Dallas, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. No minimum order was required, although a delivery surcharge of $3.99 was added, along with a tip for the driver. A spokesperson for Taco Bell noted that the plan had been in the works for a while, since customers had begun requesting a delivery option.

Recent Partnership with Grubhub

Following their early experimentation with DoorDash, Taco Bell announced a partnership with Grubhub in February 2019. (Grubhub is a mobile food ordering and delivery service.) Taco Bell tried to make the experience as seamless as possible for customers by integrating their point-of-sale system directly into the Grubhub app. Unlike the early experiments with DoorDash, the delivery service from Grubhub is available nationwide. However, customers still need to be living within a delivery zone to take advantage of it.
